John Mason uses his background in fine art and science to capture the art of nature and human persona. He would say that photography stemmed from taking photos of his sculptures and realizing it was the only way he could freeze a moment in time. However, if he were to go back even further, it would originate from growing up watching his mother take photos of every wave at the beach with her 35mm. She would say that every wave might look the same, but it isn’t, each one is special. Influenced heavily by the nostalgia of music, John Mason wants his work to feel like that one special black and white photo of someone’s grandparents from the ‘50s. He believes that photography is the plagiarism of life.
